Aloe Vera

We use organic Aloe Vera plant for many different reasons. Not only is it a great moisturizer, but it is also very soothing to the skin (think of products with aloe to soothe sunburns). Aloe Vera is great in sunscreen for the same reasons why it is great to treat sunburns!

Sunflower - Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil

We love the sunflower seed oil that we include in our sunscreens. Sunflower is a great moisturizer that has a lot of vitamin E, which acts as a powerful anti-oxidant. Our sunflower seed oil is certified organic, non-GMO, and is sourced right here in the US!

Soybeans - Glycine Soja Oil

Goddess Garden’s certified soybean oil comes from non-GMO crops sourced in the US. Soybean oil also serves a dual purpose as both a moisturizer and as a “fixative” that protects the essential oils we use in our products.

Minerals – Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide

The active ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, unlike many other sunscreens that use active synthetic chemical ingredients such as oxybenzone and avobenzone. When zinc and titanium are used together like in Goddess Garden, they help make sunscreen go on sheer and non-whitening!

Lavender - Lavandula Angustifolio Oil

Goddess Garden uses lavender essential oils in most of our sunscreens. Lavender gives our sunscreen its wonderful fragrance, but this lovely plant also is a strong anti-inflammatory that is good for minor burns, insect bites, and stings!  We love our lavender!

Radish - Radish Root Ferment Filtrate

Goddess Garden uses radish root as a part of our plant -based preservation system. A fun fact about radish in our sunscreen is that this ingredient is actually alive! Radish root is a “living” lactic acid just like the fermentation process is “alive.” This means that we don’t have any synthetic preservatives in our sunscreens so you know it’s good for you and good for the earth!

So what about the other ingredients?

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Seed Oil

Our shea butter is sourced from fair trade farms in Togo, Africa. Shea butter come from mechanically processed nuts that come from the shea tree. As an ingredients, Shea Butter is primarily used as a moisturizing agent. It is also an anti-inflammatory that reduces damage from airborne toxins and environmental impurities like pollution.

Derived from palm oil, this certified organic ingredient is a type of moisturizer called a humectant, which actually draws water to the skin. Glycerin also lowers the freezing point of our sunscreens.

Glyceryl Stearate

Also derived from palm oil, glyceryl stearate is the primary emulsifier in our sunscreens that prevents the water and oils from separating. It also makes our sunscreen less greasy.

Polyhydroxystearic Acid

This is simple ingredient is a suspending agent that keeps our formula well-balanced. Although its name sounds a little spooky, polyhydroxystearic acid is non-toxic.

Stearic Acid

This is yet another ingredient derived from palm oil. Stearic acid helps keep your skin soft!

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Tocopherol keeps our essential oils from going rancid. It is also a free radical scavenger that has great antioxidant properties!

Xanthan Gum

This very common ingredient is found in many food product because it thickens and stabilizes our formula. For our sunscreen, it actually creates a thickness that makes the lotion more spreadable. Xanthan gum is a chain of sugars that comes from the fermentation of glucose (sugar).

Caprylic Triglyceride

Found in our facial sunscreen, caprylic triglyceride is a fraction of a coconut oil chemical segment. At the molecular level, caprylic triglyceride never goes rancid and is totally stable. This ingredient has a silky feel to it that leaves your skin feeling smooth and non-greasy.

Helichrysum Italicum (Immortelle) Oil

Also found only in our facial sunscreen, Immortelle Oil is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that evens out the complexion of our skin.
